Frequently Asked Questions

Learning a language is a journey. The more you expose yourself to the language, the faster you will be able to learn. If you were living in a Spanish speaking country, you would learn by immersion which is the most natural and quickest way.

Learning away from a Spanish speaking country, you will benefit from being taught and progress will always depend on how much time you spend completing the work set for you after the lesson as this reinforces what you have learnt.

You will also benefit from listening to songs, watching films and visiting places where the language is spoken. This will accelerate your learning.

Everyone is different but on average, after a couple of months or regular lessons, you can expect to make yourself understood during simple interactions in restaurants, shops or hotel settings. Being able to express yourself, understand and be understood in a fluid conversation with others, generally takes a minimum of two to three years of regular lessons. As with everything else, practice makes perfect. When it comes to learning a foreign language, the primary goal should be communication although perfection is also worth aiming for.

Yes.  Attending a weekly class is not sufficient in itself. If you are not willing or have no time to do homework, you will be wasting your money.

Online lessons via Zoom are a convenient and very successful way of learning. You can arrange to have a lesson wherever you happen to be and all you need is an internet connection. In your lunchbreak at work, in your garden, in your car, in your kitchen or study…You may find that having all your notes and books at hand makes it all much easier.

It is however possible to have face-to-face lessons at my home by arrangement. I live in Bromley North/Sundridge Park in south east London. There are very good public transport links. Parking is in the street and it is free outside the 12-2pm lunchtime period.
